Our Beginnings: Alfredo Soprana and the Birth of His First Workshop
The story began in 1909, when a young apprentice, Alfredo Soprana, joined the prestigious Santini company in Varese, renowned for its watchmaking and optical instruments. After gaining invaluable experience, he moved to Argentina, opening a workshop in Buenos Aires dedicated to repairing and selling watches and eyeglasses. His talent and entrepreneurial spirit quickly brought him success.
In 1920, having built a thriving business, he returned to Italy with the dream of bringing back to his homeland all that he had learned abroad.

A Family Legacy and the Heart of Vicenza
After the war, Alfredo’s children embraced his passion for precision and optics, carrying it proudly into a new era. In 1954, his son Adolfo opened an elegant store in Piazza dei Signori, the vibrant heart of Vicenza, which quickly became a beloved landmark for quality and attentive service. The story continued with the next generation: Fiorenza Soprana, Adolfo’s daughter, earned her optics diploma at the Galilei Institute in Arcetri and joined the store in 1969, bringing fresh expertise and a modern vision that continues to inspire the craft today.

The true turning point came in 1985, when Fiorenza, together with her husband Antonio Marcato – a passionate optician and optometrist who had just earned his diploma in 1984 – made a bold decision: to separate the optical business from the family’s traditional watchmaking activity.With that choice, Ottica Soprana e Marcato SNC was born, right in the heart of Vicenza, at Contrà Muschieria 6.From the very beginning, the new store was more than just a place to buy glasses. It became a space where innovation met care, where clients could find not only top-quality frames and lenses, but also cutting-edge optometric services and truly personalized consultations. Piero and Alberto Marcato joined the team, bringing fresh ideas and deepening the family legacy.Piero, who earned his degree in Optics and Optometry in 2008, brought with him a strong specialization in advanced contact lenses and customized visual analysis.
